Carlos Iván Dávila
cid5@georgetown.eduCarlos Iván Dávila is an attorney with over twenty years of experience. Mr. Dávila has served as counsel in litigation and arbitration, handling labor and contractual disputes. He has acted as a co-arbitrator in an ICC energy-related dispute. He has represented clients in disputes involving government contracts in areas such as construction, logistics, and services. He is also the coordinator of procurement projects and capacity-building programs at the International Law Institute (ILI).
Mr. Dávila began his career in arbitration and litigation in labor, civil, and commercial disputes in Mexico, where he practiced for more than 7 years. He was in-house counsel for the Latin America region at FINCA International, Inc., a microfinance company based in Washington, DC; he was responsible for the Latin America region.
Mr. Dávila specializes in dispute resolution and foreign investment. He has worked for over 15 years with the International Law Institute, providing technical assistance and capacity building in areas of commercial law, dispute resolution, government procurement, and trade.
Mr. Dávila has worked in areas of construction, government contracts, energy, logistics, intellectual property, immigration, and others.
Mr. Dávila has been with the ILI for over 15 years, in charge of seminars and technical assistance programs on topics such as Arbitration and Mediation, International Trade, International Investment Agreements and Investor-State Dispute Settlement, International Public Procurement, among others.
At the ILI, Carlos regularly lectures on topics such as Alternative Dispute Resolution, International Procurement, and Contracts. He serves as a delegate observer to the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL), Working Group II on Dispute Settlement. He is an adjunct professor at Universidad La Salle Noroeste in Mexico, teaching courses on international treaties and international arbitration.
Mr. Dávila focused his legal education on alternative dispute resolution, investment law, and international commercial law; he holds a Master of Laws degree from Georgetown University (2006), with a concentration in investment law and dispute resolution; a Master of Laws degree from the ITESM Graduate School of Public Policy (2005), with a concentration in international commercial law, and a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Sonora, Mexico (2003). He was also a visiting student at the University of Arizona James E. Rogers College of Law Master of Laws Program in 2004.
